Semi jackknifed after sudden, sharp turn  

A semitruck hauling wheat became jackknifed after the driver made a sudden, sharp turn onto Road 316 from Highway 23. Elliott Pickering, 74, of Ogallala was traveling westbound between Brandon and Venango when the accident occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13. Perkins County Sheriff’s Office remained on scene until around 6 p.m. to provide traffic control while the wheat was transferred to another truck with assistance from Scoular Grain. Pickering was cited with careless driving.
