More TeamMate Mentors needed

“If you could spend just 30 minutes a week on an event that could possibly have a lifetime effect on a young person’s life, would you do it? I would think the answer to that question would be a pretty simple “Yes”.  If that sounds interesting to you, there is an organization and place where you could accomplish that feat,” says Larry Pritchett, Perkins County Schools TeamMates coordinator.

The PCS TeamMates Chapter is looking for adults to be mentors this school year. TeamMates was formed at PCS two years ago.

Pritchett said they have at least 12 more students wanting to participate this year. The class has several boys, so the chapter is looking for more men to participate as Mentors.

“My biggest fear is that we will have to tell a student that we cannot find enough Mentors so that student will not be able to participate in the TeamMates program,” said Pritchett. “I think it is safe to say that if you talk to any of the Mentors now in the program, they will tell you the 30 minutes they spend with their Mentee is worth it. I am sure that most of the Mentors will tell you that they get as much out of the program as the Mentee.”

To become a Mentor, an application must be completed in addition to a background check. To begin the process, visit  www.Teammates.org or please contact Pritchett at the high school from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 308-352-4735.

“Please consider being a Mentor. It is a great program that helps kids.”
