Angel wings on a black background adorn the front of Poppe’s Posies. The new addition was installed at the beginning of August. All are encouraged to stop and see it and pose for a photo anytime.

New sign brings pride, fun to Central Ave.

Call it art. Call it an update. Call it an improvement or a community project. Whatever the case, there is an eye-catching new addition hanging outside Poppe’s Posies.

According to Michele Poppe, the whole idea behind this project was to participate and contribute to the initiative of taking pride in the community and its appearance.

She explained that the building’s owners, Rex and Anita Burge, have been so gracious in keeping up the building, and keeping the sidewalk and curb in excellent condition, and she wanted to do something special too.

“My first idea was to paint the building black, but that would have been so much work and so much upkeep! Then Anita had the idea to have something made that could be hung on the wall,” Poppe explained.

Poppe took the idea and worked with Faber Signs who helped with the design and installation of the final product.

A giant 96-by-90-inch black sign, decorated with white wings with hints of blue, now hangs in front of Poppe’s Posies, Guests and passersby are encouraged to stop and take a photo in front of the backdrop.

Ideally, the photo is then to be posted on social media with the hashtag “#flowersfeedthesoul,” and tagging the location as Poppe’s Posies, linking the photos together.

A positive addition to the new local trend, is to also include a hashtag telling what your reason is.

“Ours is #toseekjoy,” Poppe explained. “So you just take your photo, tag Poppe’s Posies, use the hashtag #flowersfeedthesoul, and tell us in a hashtag, what’s your reason,” she said.

Michele’s daughter, Brooke, was instrumental in the project as well, Michele explained.

“You know the hashtag thing is hard,”Michele laughed. So Brooke has been helping her get the technology part down, but it has all been done in fun, and for a good cause.

Take the opportunity to head down to Poppe’s Posies and participate in something fun and positive for the community to share with one another.
