Grant native to enter CSC Hall of Fame

Janelle Hutt Uehling, a basketball standout at Perkins County High School in the mid-1990s, will be one of eight inductees into the Chadron State College Athletic Hall of Fame this fall. 

A 6-foot-3 post player, Uehling was in the Eagles’ regular rotation all four years.  She shot 50.4 percent from the field and scored 1,100 points, grabbed 580 rebounds and blocked 114 shots during her career.

She had a particularly strong senior season when she averaged 12.5 points and 5.4 rebounds. She was named to the Nebraska NCAA Division II All-Star Team, selected by the Omaha World-Herald and was placed on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s Second-Team.

The Eagles won 20 games her junior season and 19 her senior year.

Weeks after her basketball career ended, Uehling gave a classical piano recital at Chadron State. It was attended by most of her teammates and numerous basketball fans.

After earning a degree in business and economics, she has worked for the North Platte Public Schools much of her career. 

She and her husband, Gregg Uehling, also a Grant native, have three children—Carson, Addison and Tyson.

Janelle’s parents are Dennis and Ronda Hutt, and Gregg is the son of Glee Uehling and the late Bob Uehling.

The Hall of Fame program will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 after the Chadron State football game against New Mexico Highlands.

Matt Strand, a graduate of Chase County High School at Imperial, also will be inducted. 

He was an outstanding quarterback and also played basketball for the Eagles from 1998 through 2001.
