Midwest Electric honored as Chamber Business Spotlight

The Perkins County Chamber of Commerce Business Spotlight honor was awarded to Midwest Electric for the month of August.

Midwest Electric Cooperative Corporation was formed in 1945 to supply electric service to Perkins and Keith counties.

According to General Manager Larry Umberger, Board Chair Dale Erlewine “closed the switch to provide the first power to Perkins County.”

As a member owned cooperative, Midwest Electric is focused on providing electrical services to rural population and businesses. The majority of the company’s sales are to irrigators in the surrounding area.

During the company’s first month in 1945, Midwest Electric was connected to 224 farm customers, averaging 78 kWh’s per month.

Today, the company provides power to over 2700 customers, averaging 220 million kWh’s annually.

The company currently has 29 employees and nine Board of Directors.

Midwest Electric continues to stand for what they started in 1945, providing reliable and affordable electricity to their members.

As the Business Spotlight for August, Midwest Electric received the Perkins County Chamber traveling trophy to display at their location until the September meeting.
