Third annual boat parade to be held at Lake McConaughy

The Ogallala/Keith County Chamber will host a Parade of Boats on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Martin Bay, Lake McConaughy. The theme for this year’s parade is “Pirates of Martin Bay”.

“All owners of any kind of boat are invited to deck out their vessel, assemble their crew and don their finest pirate attire for a one-of-a-kind parade of boats,” said Karla Scott, executive director of the Ogallala/Keith County Chamber.

Along with allowing boat owners an opportunity to show off their boats, the event will also include awards for best decor, for those who choose to dress their boats and themselves up in pirate-themed garb.

Registration for the parade will begin at 5 p.m., with the boats launching around 6 p.m. At 7 p.m. the parade will take place and judging will begin.

Boaters are encouraged to light up their boats, and themselves, to provide a colorful light show as the sun goes down, Scott said.

To add to the light show, several bonfires will be lit on shore.

Those attending are encouraged to bring marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers to make s’mores. After the parade and bonfires, awards will be given out for best boat decoration and best costumes.

The award ceremony will take place at Martin Bay around 8 p.m.
