Sutherland takes Wallace 46-28
The Wallace boys basketball team made the short trip north last Thursday to compete against the Sutherland Sailors. The Wildcats got off to a good start with a couple of three-point plays. Micah Swedberg got a layup and one off of a steal and Kolton Hager followed that up with a basket beyond the arch.
The Sailors responded with a couple of three-pointers of their own and from there, the score stayed close throughout the first quarter. Wallace had the slight edge with a 10-9 lead going into the second quarter.
Sutherland went on a 9-point run early in period number two but the Cats responded with a 10-point run of their own. Just before the final buzzer, the Sailors got a bucket to tie the score at 20 going into halftime.
The second half did not go well for the Wildcats at all. Sutherland made some adjustments on both sides of the ball and the Cats didn’t have an answer. The Sailors took over under the basket getting most of their points in the paint. Wallace, on the other hand, was only able to score four points in the third quarter.
With a 32-24 lead, Sutherland continued to control the game in the final period. Wallace was held to just four additional points while the Sailors went on to score another 14 to get a 46-28 victory over the Wildcats.
Hager led the way for Wallace with 10 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Swedberg was right behind him with nine points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Kaden Hager, Ethan Bowlin, and Blake Pelster each scored three points. Blake pulled down seven rebounds and had one assist and Ethan had one rebound, one assist, and one steal.
Wallace is scheduled to have a busy week of basketball before going into Christmas break. They had a home game against Medicine Valley on Tuesday and then they will play in the Perkins County Holiday tournament on Thursday and Friday.
