Wildcats prepare for final home game

The basketball season is winding down for Wallace as they approach the last game of the regular season.

Hitchcock County made their way to Wallace last Friday for a competitive match. It was very evident that playing in the opponent’s gym was not going to affect the Falcons shot, they were spot-on with their shots which made things very difficult for the Wildcats.

The game stayed close throughout the first half. The Falcons had the one-point edge at the end of the opening quarter but Wallace had a strong second quarter.

Micah Swedberg drained back-to-back treys to give Wallace a five-point lead late in the quarter. It looked as if they were going to go into halftime with the lead and momentum but Hitchcock County hit a huge 3-pointer just before the buzzer. The long ball was their fourth one in the quarter. All of their second-quarter points were 3-point shots. Wallace had to settle for a 24-22 halftime lead.

The 3-ball continued to fall for the Falcons in the third period. They knocked down four more along with an equal amount of 2-pointers. Wallace, on the other hand, was struggling. They only put up eight points in the quarter which had them going into the final quarter trailing 32-40.

The Wildcats had a great start to the fourth quarter with a 7-1 scoring run, but the Falcons responded with an eight-point run which included two more 3-pointers. Wallace battled but they still fell short. Hitchcock County went home with a 52-47 victory.

Seniors Blake Pelster and Swedberg led the Wildcats stats. They each scored 13 points. Along with the 13 points, Pelster had one rebound and one assist. Swedberg had six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Kolton Hager had six points, three rebounds and one assist and Kaden Hager had five points, two rebounds and six assists. Ethan Bowlin also had five points along with one rebound and one assist. Tanner Finley had two points, four rebounds and one assist and Camden McConnell had three points and one assist.
