Lisa Schmitt this year's Good Neighbor

Lisa Schmitt has been selected as the recipient of this year’s good neighbor award.

Schmitt and her husband Randy moved to Grant over two decades ago. Since that time, Schmitt has spent much of her time volunteering in the community.

When her two now-grown daughters, Sarah and Naomi, were young, Schmitt led their Girl Scout troops from kindergarten through high school.

She said it was a great way to spend time with her kids, get to know other kids as well as other community members.

Schmitt was one of the starting members of the Perkins County Pool Project Committee, serving as president of the group until last year.

She has served on the Hastings Memorial Library Foundation for several years and also serves as treasurer.

She is active in the Zion Lutheran Church, and served on the Thrivent Board when there used to be a chapter here.

She is also active in Lions Club, serving as chairperson for the Red Cross blood drive set-up committee and helping with other service projects. She joined Grant Rotary this year as well.

Schmitt said the blood drives have been a great place to meet people and hear interesting stories.

“I like to hear about people and their stories,” she said.

In addition to all her volunteer work, Schmitt was elected Grant’s mayor last November in a four-candidate race.

Schmitt also works full-time at Adams Bank & Trust.

Her nomination letter states “she humbly serves our community in many different organizations and clubs always with a positive approach.”

For being selected Good Neighbor, Schmitt will receive a plaque and ride in front of the Perkins County Fair Parade on Saturday, July 20.
