Flower sale supports Ukraine
Blume Floral Studio in Grant found a way to support war-torn Ukraine, with a flower fundraiser.
On Friday, March 11, sunflowers, a recognized symbol of the country of Ukraine, were sold at Blume, with 100 percent of the proceeds from the flower sale earmarked to be sent overseas in a show of support for Ukraine, who is contending with the Russian invasion, now in its fourth week.
Shop owner, Lauren Klima was inspired by her friend, Alison Aten Rash, fellow Perkins County native, now California artist, who frequently donates her art for causes that move her.
Response to the fundraiser was great, said Klima. They actually ran out of sunflowers and had to make up bouquets of other flowers to fulfill the demand.
Klima estimates that she will be sending $1000 to aid the Ukrainian cause.
One customer thoughtfully purchased several flowers for patients at Perkins County Health Services and the workers on duty at nurses’ station, so their day could be brightened by the cheerful bouquets.
“The patients really enjoyed getting the flowers,” the nurses said.
