Timing shed named for long-time track worker

A timing shed will be put to good use with Perkins County High School’s first home track meet of the 2022 season on Thursday.
According to Jayson Bishop, who had been in charge of the electronic timing system, a new shed was needed to protect the equipment, installed in 2016, from the elements.
Funds for the construction of the shed were raised by renting the equipment out to other schools.
The building construction class was put to work in spring of 2021, taking down the old stands, and putting up the new structure, which was named the Glenn Taubenheim Timing Shed.
Taubenheim, who passed away in 2017, spent many years in charge of the finish line as a picker/timer, using the hand held system of recording runners’ times and places. Bishop thought it was appropriate to honor the man who had been so dedicated and had given so much time to the school’s athletics.
Taubenheim’s widow, Bonnie and their children were very pleased to hear that the shed was named after her late husband.
