A Christmas story artist show

There is a special showing through December at Grant’s Meadowlark Gallery featuring artist Karen A. Van Lieu of Grant.

Karen will be exhibiting her Christmas and Biblical series, which is highly detailed with expressive pen, colored pencils, pastels and watercolor drawings.

Every year Karen creates a distinctive pen and ink drawing for a Christmas card, which her parents always have printed for friends and family.

Karen’s mother noticed her daughter’s talent when she began to draw realistic trees at the age of two. When she turned eight, the family enrolled her in private art lessons.

Her passion for artistic expression began with vivid images of light breaking into darkness. “It has become the dominant metaphor of my life and art,” said Karen.

Although Karen struggles with a debilitating chronic illness, communicating artistically remains her passion. Whether illustrating or doing art therapy, her art continues to play an important role in her life.

Also in December stop by and visit with the Train Players. Darrel Pierce, Kevin Schrotberger, Karl Dudo and Chris Henthorn have created an animated holiday train diorama.

Perkins County Area Arts Council is opening Meadowlark Gallery every Friday evening from 5:30 – 7 and Saturday mornings from 10-noon for these special shows in December.
