Outgoing PCS admins honored, incoming ready to take helm in July

It was something of an unofficial changing of the guards Monday, June 19 during Perkins County School Board’s regular meeting, with the current administration of Superintendent Phillip Picquet, and principals Nancy Sorensen and Ben Jones attending their last meeting, with the three new administrators watching from the sidelines, ready to begin their duties in July.
“Thank you for your service to the school,” Board President Chris Fryzek said as the board presented parting gifts to Sorensen and Jones, which were wall hangings with special quotes and sayings attributed to them or cherished by each of them throughout their careers at PCS.
The new administration team, made up of Superintendent Mark Jolliffe, and Principals Austin Reisig and Dalton Pettera will attend their first board meeting in their official capacities in July.
Grant Received for Anatomy table and Plasma Table
It was announced during the meeting the school has received a reVision Grant from the Nebraska Department of Education in the amount of $100,000. With the funds the school will purchase an anatomy table for their science and ag departments and a plasma table for their ag department.
The anatomy table will allow PCS students to learn about anatomy of both humans and animals. The Plasma table will allow students to fabricate steel.
According to Superintendent Picquet, those instrumental in writing the grant were Nicole Long, Deanne Bishop and Seth Burge.
Increase in Lunch Prices
The Board has approved the increase in lunch prices for the 23-24 school year. School lunch prices will now be the following: Breakfast K-12, $2.10; Lunch K-6th, $3.40; Lunch, 7-12, $3.90.
Fully Staffed After 4 Years
The board approved the teaching contract for Jill Bauerle of Imperial who will teach music in the district. Picquet announced that with Bauerle’s hiring, the school is fully staffed for the first time in more than four years
Other staff that have been hired this year include the following: Rhea Self- 1st Grade; Maaika Schilz- 1st Grade; Kara Hagan 5/6 -Language Arts; Angela Gloy - 5th/6th Social Studies; Bailey Meyer- 5th/6th math; Brandon Geier- 7-12 Phys Ed; Julie Ferguson -7-12 Business; Tonya Mosel -9-12 Science.
