Western Sky fundraiser getting close to goal
The Western Sky Community Care Center Fundraising Committee is very busy.
The USDA has committed up to a $13.9 million nursing home construction loan (40 years @ 3.5% interest), with the stipulation for some preliminary work that is still being done. To cover operating costs as the facility opens, the USDA has set a requirement that Western Sky have $3.15 million in the bank before the beginning of construction.
Fundraising Committee Chair, Doris Olsen, feels positive about the progress made toward that number to date .
Numerous donations have been received and several significant donations are now pending, according to Olsen. She claims that these “possibilities” should help toward achieving that goal. Doris further states, “The project’s success depends on support from local donors. This support is more than important; it is urgent, because it is essential to ensure timely completion of the project.”
The next official fundraising event, set for Oct. 5, will hopefully be a celebration of reaching the current fundraising goal. It will be a Grant Lions/Grant Rotary sponsored pancake feed (free-will donation) at the Perkins County Fairgrounds (5:30 to 7:30 PM). There will be an auction at 7 PM of donated local home-grown items. Auctioneering will be conducted by volunteer auctioneer Tom Regehr and friends. The following are planned to be auctioned:
• Eight boxes of beef donated by the Wilson Family (processing donated by Grant Pack).
• Pork donated by the Burge Family.
• Five quarts of honey donated by Tom Kraus.
• Several dozen eggs donated by “Loeffler’s Chicks & Friends”.
• Large baskets of garden produce (donors to be announced).
Anyone willing to donate a basket of garden produce should call Doris Olsen (308-352-6308). Also, there have been two gold coins anonymously donated to Western Sky. If interested in purchasing them, please also call Doris.
The Fundraising Committee encourages everyone to attend the Oct. 5 event to support this project. Olsen also expressed her appreciation for all the support the community has shown to this point.
