Perkins County Health Services Foundation invites community to support PINK OCTOBER
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Perkins County Health Services Foundation is spreading the word about their second annual “PINK OCTOBER 1 Mile & 5k bRUNch.”
PCHS Foundation Administrator Jane Hagan says “This isn’t your typical run, it’s a celebration of life and strength!”
The run will be held at the Pheasant Run Golf Course in Grant on October 5 at 9 a.m.
“Join us to raise awareness for breast cancer and enjoy a delightful brunch afterward, celebrating our collective commitment to making a difference,” Hagan said.
The foundation is looking for businesses and individuals interested in sponsoring the event as well, even if not by running.
The foundation is offering different levels of sponsorship as well as personalized “In Honor of...” and “In Memory of...” signs that will be placed along the run course. Prizes for winners from businesses or individuals is another way to get involved.
Supporting the PINK OCTOBER 1 Mile and 5k bRUNch, supports two critical initiatives for the PCHS Foundation, Hagan explained.
A new Olympus endoscopy system for the Perkins County Surgery Department is one of the goals the foundation has. This device is used to examine the interior of the gastrointestinal tract and includes a flexible tube and light with a camera that assists the doctors in identifying and treating digestive disorders as well as some cancers and other things. On average, PCHS performs 500-550 endoscopy procedures each year.
“An endoscopy system at a community hospital is crucial because it enables local healthcare providers to perform diagnostic procedures without patients needing to travel to larger hospitals. This results in quicker diagnoses, earlier treatment, and improved outcomes for patients in the community, thereby enhancing overall healthcare accessibility and quality, locally,” Hagan said.
The current equipment being used at PCHS is over five years old, and with advances in equipment and technology, “it is time for an update” she said.
The second initiative that sponsoring the run will support is the Mammogram and breast health fund at PCHS, which offers access to diagnostic mammograms and breast ultra sounds for uninsured or high deductible patients.
“Your involvement contributes to early detection and better treatment outcomes for women in our community,” Hagan said.
