Lady Plainsmen and Coach Bishop ready for action
Head Coach Deanne Bishop is preparing to head into her twenty-fourth year of coach Lady Plainsmen basketball. Assisting Bishop this year will be Mike Mayer and Spencer Ross. Together, they have been working hard to ready the girls for the season. “Preseason is a busy time. Although the bulk of what we do is not Xs and Os, they’re the kind of time-consuming, organizational things that help a season run smoothly. The girls have been putting in conditioning work so they’re ready to go for our first week of practice,” states Bishop.
Bishop is glad to see the number of girls participating this basketball season. Morgan Day, Zoe Hanson, Olivia Gengenbach, Kamryn Klockman and Addison York are freshmen joining the basketball team this year. Among them are sophomore girls Lauren Bishop, Ella Homan, Haylea McGreer, Karina Morales, Madison Potts, Anley Sauder, and Emily Wilson. Juniors include Hannah Bishop, Lexie Fisher, Paige Franklin, Jacqueline Gloy, and Tessa Uehling. Leading the team as seniors will be Libby Cole and Emily Cornelius. Sophomore Karime Morales is a student manager this year.
“I look for practices to be competitive and for the girls to support and push one another. We return a number of girls who saw significant Varsity minutes last season, and that experience should help fuel our confidence and pace of play,” says Bishop.
The Lady Plainsmen varsity team began their preseason competition on November 26 at home against Cambridge where they picked up a win.
Their next game is Dec. 5 in Hershey with JV games beginning at 4 p.m.
