NPSP
Lady Plainsmen immediately took the lead in the first quarter scoring twenty four points compared to St. Patricks only managed eight points. They continued into the second quarter, scoring thirteen points and scored fourteen points in the third quarter. Lady Plainsmen finished off with thirteen points in the last quarter, bringing the final score to 64-38. Sophomore Maddison Potts was the top point earner for the girls. She scored a total of 16 points followed by Sophomore Ella Homan with fourteen points. Junior Jacqueline Gloy led in rebounds against North Platte St. Patricks, receiving eight rebounds. Senior Libby Cole and Junior Hannah Bishop tied for the most assists during the game, each getting four assists.
“The girls did a good job of applying pressure and capitalizing on NPSP’s turnovers for points. Our bench personnel provided an offensive spark when we needed it and grabbed some key rebounds. This was a great, team effort,” said Head Coach Deanne Bishop.
SUTHERLAND
Lady Plainsmen then traveled to Sutherland to compete. Lady Plainsmen started off with a strong lead of nineteen points. In the second quarter they scored fourteen, and in the third they pulled off sixteen. Lastly, Lady Plainsmen managed seventeen points. In the end, Lady plainsmen conquered the Sailors 66-44. Once again Sophomore Maddison Potts was the top point earned with twenty points. Sophomore Ella Homan achieved the most rebounds with six total. Senior Libby Cole, led with six assists.
“We’ve made a concerted effort to do better at rebounding -- both in practice and games. Against Sutherland we were +12 on rebounds. We also had balanced scoring as 34 of our points came from the paint. As an undersized team, we did a good job of finding open teammates and attacking the rim,” said Coach Bishop.
Unfortunately, the Lady Plainsmen lost twice this week against Chase County Longhorns and Wauneta-Palisade Broncos. Their current record for the season is 4-8.
CHASE COUNTY
Lady Plainsmen played Chase County Longhorns on January 16th at Chase County High School. In the first quarter, the lady plainsmen fell behind with a score of 7-10. They scored seven points in the second quarter as well. After the first half the girls could not face the powerful Longhorns. In the third quarter, Lady Plainsmen scored eight points whereas Lady Longhorns scored twenty-two. Lastly, in the fourth quarter, Plainsmen added five points to their score, making the final score 27-63.
WAUNETA-PALISADE
The Lady Plainsmen then stayed at their home court to go head to head against the Wauneta-Palisade Broncos. Plainsmen girls scored eight points in the first quarter falling behind to the Broncos who scored fourteen. In the second quarter, Lady Plainsmen came back scoring eighteen points. However the Broncos kept their lead, scoring twenty. At half time the score of the game was 34-26. In the third and fourth quarters the Lady Plainsmen scored eleven points each.
