Plainsmen golf season underway

Boys Golf is upon us and the Perkins County Plainsmen Golf Team has competed in numerous meets thus far.
On April 8th, Plainsmen traveled to the Hi-Line Invitational Golf Meet at Johnson Lake Golf course. The weather was cool and windy however the boys managed to rank 5th place out of 15 teams. Their overall score was 361 points. Zaybreon Hansen, a Senior, placed eleventh with a score of 86 points.
Next the team traveled to the Sidney Invitational Track Meet held at Hillside Golf Course on April 10th. The team tied for fourth place out of 9 teams. Most teams were class B. Overall the team scored 367 points. Individual places were Hansen at 6th place, scoring 83 points, and Cade Kroeker, placing 12th with 87 points.
After that the team traveled to Chase County’s Enders Golf Course on April 15th. With warm weather and slight winds, the team managed to earn 2nd place. They scored 348 points, just four points behind the champion, Chase County. Hansen came in first place, with a score of 74. He won by making a 30 foot putt in the playoffs. Kroeker, placed 7th with a score of 88. Oscar Boldt placed 13th with a score of 91 and Myles Bishop placed 15th with a score of 95.
Most recently, the Plainsmen traveled to Hershey’s Invitational meet at River’s Edge Golf Course in North Platte on April 17th. With cooperative weather the team placed first out of 12 teams. The team scored a 319 which compares to the best scores in Perkins County Schools History. Hansen placed first, with a score of 74 points. Jet Peterson placed fifth with a score of 81, followed by Kroeker scoring an 81. Boldt scored an 83 for 10th place.
“Our team is improving and working hard to prepare for the upcoming conference and district tournaments. The district tournament will be held at Crandell Creek in Ogallala on May 19th. If we play like we can, we have a shot at qualifying for the state tournament as a team,” said Head Coach Mark Jolliffe.
Next the Plainsmen will competed at their home course, Pheasant Run, on April 22. Results will be in a future issue of the Tribune.
