Perkins-Chase Teams host Southwest Classic

After a successful 2024 debut, the Perkins-Chase Livestock Judging Team brought back the Southwest Judging Classic livestock judging competition on April 20.
Nearly 90 youth took part in the event, held this year on the Perkins County Fairgrounds, ranging from peewees, (seven year olds and younger), up to seniors as old as 18.
The Perkins-Chase team placed third in the junior division, (8-13 year olds), and the senior team placed fourth.
Overall, Lincoln County was the top juniors’ team followed by Logan County 1. The top individual went to Sage Carnahan of Elbert Colorado, with Scottsbluff’s Brooklyn Creech in second and Perkins-Chase’s Charlee Spickelmier third.
Logan County finished on top in the seniors team leaderboard. HPJ placed second with Tri River Area in third. Seth Meyring of Box Butte claimed top individual honors, followed by Harper Johnson of Logan County and Perkins-Chase’s Jayme Gittlein finished third. Cauy Robinson of P-C team was tenth.
Senior members joining Gittlein and Robinson on the Perkins-Chase Team are Violet Sparrow and Wyatt Mason. Additional junior team members are Hayden Fowler, Grady Fowler, Lily Kuenning and Paisley Holmstedt. Waycee Spickelmier finished second in the peewee division.
Perkins-Chase Livestock Judging coach Regan Gittlein thanked the Perkins County Fairboard for its help preparing for the competition. Gittlein also appreciated the producers who supplied livestock for the day, including Cornelius Family Farms, Burge Show Pigs, Robertson Club lambs, Grands goats, Blue Collar Livestock and Gittlein Family Cattle.
