Plainsmen Power to victory: Boys clinch Class C State Track title with dominant performance

“It’s been an exciting ride to go on this season,” said Plainsmen Track Coach Shayne Hite after an extraordinary season of track. Plainsmen competed in Omaha, NE at the Burke Stadium on May 23 and May 24. They had a very successful time, and in the end pulled off a Class C State Championship Trophy. 

On the first day of the meet, May 23, multiple Plainsmen competed and placed in running events. The first placing of the day went to the 3200 meter relay team, made up of Brock Tines, Eli Goodell, Rylee Schrotberger, and Mason McGreer. 

They placed second to Lincoln Lutheran with a time of 8 minutes and 1.26 seconds, which broke the school record. 

Next was the 400 meter race, where Ryder Potts competed. He placed 6th with a time of  50.4 seconds. On the girls track team Libby Cole ran a time of 1 minute 5.25 seconds and finished in 24th place. 

In the 3200 meter race, two Plainsmen placed. McGreer won first place, with a time of 9 minutes 21.17 seconds. In second place was Goodell, just seconds behind his teammate at 9 minutes 25.19 seconds. 

Ethan Swesey placed 9th in this event as well with a time of 9 minutes 59.60 seconds. Madison Potts, on the girls team ran as well finishing in 20th spot. She ran a time of 12 minutes 55.27 seconds. 

On the second day, many athletes competed in running events. 

McGreer placed second in the 800 meter race, running a time of 1 minute 55.03 seconds. He also broke a school record. In 11t place was Brock Tines with a time of 2 minutes 1.2 seconds. 

In the 1600 meter race, McGreer and Goodell wiped the leader board once again. McGreer earned first place running a time of 4 minutes 20.92 seconds, breaking another school record. 

Goodell, moments behind him, earned second place with a time of 4 minutes 24.57 seconds. As for the ladies team, M. Potts  ran a 5 minute 57.94 second time. She finished in the 23rd spot. 

Potts then competed in the 200 meter race. He finished in 6th place with a time of 22.78 seconds. 

Kam Klockman, Lady Plainsmen competed in High Jump. She placed 16th at a height of 4 feet 10 inches. 

Lastly, the Plainsmen competed in the 1600 meter relay. The team of  Potts, Tines, Schrotberger, and Colton Kroeker finished in 6th place. They ran a time of 3 minutes 27.27 seconds. 

Finally, boys were handed the Class C State Champion Trophy that they worked so hard for.

 “I felt like I could finally breathe but very excited for the kids,” said Hite. Between balancing schedules, staying healthy, proper training, and proper event placement, the trophy was not an easy success.
