Heavy rains continue to soak Grant and Perkins County

Following a series of intense storms in late May, Grant and Perkins County have continued to experience significant rainfall into early June, raising ongoing concerns about localized flooding and agricultural impacts.

In Grant, the month of May concluded with a substantial downpour on May 26, recording 2.64 inches of rain in a single day. This followed earlier storms on May 24 and 25, which brought 1.53 inches and 0.52 inches of rain, respectively.

As June commenced, the region experienced additional rainfall. On June 2 and 3, steady rains soaked the area overnight, contributing to already saturated soils and raising concerns about potential flooding.

Perkins County as a whole has seen similar patterns, with rainfall totals varying across the region. Some locations reported over 2 inches of rain during the same period, aligning with forecasts that had placed the area under a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) for heavy rainfall.

The persistent precipitation has prompted local authorities to monitor the situation closely. Residents, especially those in low-lying areas, are advised to remain vigilant and prepared for potential flooding.

Farmers are also assessing the impact on crops, as excessive moisture can hinder planting and growth. Looking ahead, forecasts suggest continued chances of thunderstorms and rain in the coming days.

The National Weather Service advises residents to stay informed, regularly,  through local news outlets and official weather channels for updates on weather conditions and safety advisories, not just in the summer months, but in every season.
