The Perkins County Lady Plainsmen kicked off their 2025 volleyball season on a high note Thursday, August 28, when they hosted their first triangular match of the year at Perkins County High School. Sutherland and Creek Valley joined the Plainsmen for the evening, but it was the home team that walked away with two strong victories.
Perkins County opened play against the Sutherland Sailors, sweeping the match in two sets. The Lady Plainsmen took control early and closed out the match with set scores of 25-20 and 25-16.
Momentum carried over into the second matchup of the night against Creek Valley, where the Plainsmen continued their dominant play.
They defeated the Storm in straight sets, winning 25-8 and 25-18.
Head Coach Monica Cole praised her team’s energy and focus after the successful start.
“I thought that the girls were focused and ready to finally play a game,” said Cole. “Sometimes the first 3 weeks of the season can be daunting with prepping for the first match, but after last night, we have officially hit the ground running! They played together and served well. We have a few things to work on, but that’s completely normal at the beginning of every season. What’s important is that we get better with each practice and game and with the motivation that the girls have had the last few days, I have no doubts that will happen.”
The wins mark a promising beginning for Perkins County as the team looks to build momentum through the season.
On Tuesday Sept 2 at Brady, the Lady Plainsmen fell 0-2.
