WSCCC to host auction & meal Oct. 4
A fundraiser for Western Sky Community Care Center (WSCCC) will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Wheatland Wedding and Events Center (former Wheatland School). There will be an auction and a free-will donation meal with several options to choose from.
“Additional items for the auction are welcome and needed,” said Doris Olsen, fundraising committee chairman. New or like-new items from individuals or businesses can be donated by contacting Olsen at 308-352-6308 or Steve Loeffler at 308-464-2121.
Olsen said that construction of the new nursing home is on schedule, with a tentative opening date of April 1, 2026. As that date approaches, the board and fundraising committee are focused on the operational expenses and other needs that will soon be a reality. Among those are a handicap van, furnishings for common and outdoor areas, a facility sign, and work on grounds and landscaping.
“The board and fundraising committee would like to express their thanks to all the generous supporters of the nursing home project,” Olsen said. “It’s evident that Perkins County and the surrounding area want a local, modern care home in Grant.”
She added that donations for WSCCC are still being accepted at Pinnacle Bank in Grant. Gifts or grain or livestock also remain an option for those who would like to contribute to the project.
As loan agent, the USDA required that WSCCC have $3.14 million on hand in order to begin construction. That goal was met in October 2024, followed by a groundbreaking in April 2025. WSCCC is also required to retain an amount equaling one year’s mortgage payments, $665,000, until the loan is repaid.
“We thank you for all your past and future support,” Olsen said. “This project is truly a testament to the generosity and compassion of our community, and we are very grateful.”
