Lady Plainsmen fall to Holyoke and Morrill, win against Crawford

The Perkins County Plainsmen hit the court this week. They first played Holyoke on September 25 at Perkins County High School. They then played Crawford and Morill on September 27 at Potter Dix High School. 

Holyoke

After a junior varsity match was canceled, the varsity team suited up to face the Holyoke Dragons on September 25 at Perkins County High School. The first set was a close match throughout. The Dragons took the lead in the end, winning 26-24. Plainsmen could not defeat the Dragons momentum in the second set. Plainsmen fell, with the scoring turning out to be 25-18. In the third set, Plainsmen were determined to make a comeback and fought to win the third set at a score of 25-20. However, the Dragons fought back even harder to win the fourth set at 25-16. The Dragons won three out of four sets. 

Despite the loss, the Lady Plainsmen put up a good fight. Junior, Ella Homan, helped her team by spiking seventeen kills and receiving fourteen digs . Freshman, Macy Cole, served four aces during the match. 

Crawford

On September 27, Plainsmen hit the road to Potter Dix High School to play a triangular match. Plainsmen first, faced the Crawford Rams. The first set was a close battle, however Plainsmen pulled through and took the win. The score was 25-23. The Rams made a comeback in the second set, winning it with a score of 25-20. Plainsmen stayed strong in the third set and only allowed the opposing team to earn ten points. Plainsmen secured the win in the third set, with a score of 25-10. Plainsmen won the match 2-1. 

Plainsmen played hard to earn the win against crawford. Zoe Hansen, Perkins County Sophomore, contributed with nine kills. Homan served six aces. Senior Tessa Uehling pushed to earn eight digs and in total received sixteen of the opposing teams’ serves.

Morrill

Lastly the Plainsmen played the Morrill Lions. The Lions showed to be a tough team to beat. They took the lead immediately to win the first set 25-17. Despite Plainsmens effort and hard work to make a comeback, Lions took the win in the second set as well. The score was 25-20. 

Next Action

Plainsmen play in a triangular match on Tuesday, September 30. These results will be in the next edition of the Grant Tribune.  They will then play in Sedgwick County on October 2 at 4:30 pm.
