Two-vehicle crash at rural intersection sends one to hospital
An 18-year-old man was hospitalized following a T-bone crash at the intersection of Road 330 and Road 769, according to the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver of Vehicle 1, traveling southbound on Road 330, told authorities he looked both ways before entering the intersection but did not see Vehicle 2, driven by a 76-year-old man heading westbound on Road 769.
The two vehicles collided, striking Vehicle 2 in the center of the passenger side. Both vehicles left the roadway on the southwest corner of the intersection and went into a nearby field. Authorities noted no indication that either driver attempted to brake prior to the collision.
There are no stop or yield signs at the intersection in any direction.
The 18-year-old driver of Vehicle 1 was transported by ambulance to Perkins County Hospital with lacerations to his left arm. The 76-year-old driver of Vehicle 2 refused medical treatment despite suffering facial lacerations.
All airbags deployed in both vehicles. The younger driver was wearing a seatbelt; it was unclear whether the older driver was restrained. Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene.
