A handful of people attended the first of what will be three town hall meetings in Perkins County to view results from a survey conducted by West Central Nebraska Development District. The results will assist with updating the county’s comprehensive plan and zoning regulations. Leading the town hall was WCNDD Executive Director Edward Dunn.
“(Those in attendance at the town hall) were each able to view the digital survey results that were submitted by 28 Perkins County Residents,” Dunn said.
The survey was live online from June through August 2025, and was available in paper form throughout local venues in Perkins County, he said. Dunn collected input from those in attendance at the meeting and will incorporate that into the final survey draft.
Two more town hall meetings with the same process will take place in Madrid and Venango. However, dates for these meetings have not been set yet, he said. Once the town halls are complete, and a final draft of the survey is compiled, Dunn will present the findings to the Perkins County Planning Commission with proposed updates to the county’s Comprehensive Plan, he said. From there, the Planning Commission and Perkins County Commissioners will collaborate to come up with a final updated plan.
“Once a proposed final plan is ready, public hearings will be held with both the Planning Commission and the Board of County Commissioners. The whole process should be finalized prior to March of next year,” Dunn said.
The goal of the updated Comprehensive Plan will be to provide a roadmap to success for the next ten years of growth in Perkins County, he said.
