The Perkins County Lady Plainsmen picked up a hard-fought win on January 15, edging the Chase County Longhorns 50–49 in a tightly contested matchup.
Perkins County jumped out to a narrow lead in the first quarter, scoring 11 points while holding Chase County to 9. The Lady Plainsmen continued to build momentum in the second quarter, outscoring the Longhorns 14–12 to take a four-point advantage into halftime.
The third quarter saw Perkins County maintain control, putting up 16 points to Chase County’s 13. The Longhorns made a strong push in the final frame, outscoring Perkins County 15–9, but the Lady Plainsmen held on down the stretch to secure the one-point victory.
Madison Potts led all scorers with 18 points for Perkins County, followed by Ella Homan with 12 points. Addison York paced the Lady Plainsmen on the boards, pulling down 7 rebounds.
Head Coach Deanne Bishop praised her team’s effort against a tough opponent.
“This was an extremely gratifying win for our program,” Bishop said. “Chase County is an extremely athletic, well-coached squad. They’re definitely better than their record. Our defense seemed to give them trouble at times — and our 15 steals and 14 deflections turned into 19 points on the offensive end for us. Although we struggled more than usual from the free-throw line, ultimately we hit the ones we needed to and played good defense to secure the win.”
Perkins County was scheduled to play Wauneta-Palisade on January 16, but that game was postponed due to high winds. A makeup date has not yet been announced.
