The Perkins County girls basketball team rebounded from an early-week loss to finish the week with two wins as the Lady Plainsmen continued regular-season play.
MITCHELL
Perkins County opened the week with a 48-45 loss to the Mitchell Tigers on January 20. Ella Homan led the Lady Plainsmen with 16 points. Addison York pulled down 12 rebounds, while Jacqueline Gloy and Madison Potts each added eight rebounds. Homan also recorded three assists.
Head coach Deanne Bishop said missed opportunities proved costly.
“We shot an extremely low percentage from the floor, and Mitchell shot better than they typically do,” Bishop said. “However, we were lackadaisical on rebounding, which led to a number of second-chance opportunities that Mitchell used to their advantage.”
ST. PATRICKS
The Lady Plainsmen responded two days later with a 47-20 win over North Platte St. Patrick’s on January 22. Perkins County led 7-2 after the first quarter and extended the margin to 25-6 at halftime. St. Patrick’s scored eight points in the third quarter, but Perkins County answered with seven before closing the game with a 15-6 fourth quarter.
Homan once again led the scoring with 14 points and added seven steals. Gloy finished with five rebounds and three assists.
“After some focused fundamental work, the girls came ready to play,” Bishop said. “Rebounding was more solid, and the girls did a great job of attacking the rim.”
CHASE COUNTY
Perkins County capped the week with a 49-39 win over Chase County on January 24. The Lady Plainsmen jumped out to an 11-4 lead after the first quarter and took a 24-17 advantage into halftime. Perkins County outscored the Longhorns 18-7 in the third quarter and held on for the win.
Madison Potts led Perkins County with 17 points. York added 10 rebounds, and Gloy recorded four assists.
“It’s tough to beat the same team twice, let alone twice in the same week,” Bishop said. “Kudos to the girls who played some of their best defense of the season. Our rotations, closeouts and rebounding were all solid. We had active hands and recorded 12 steals and 18 deflections. After a disappointing loss to start the week, the girls responded in a positive way with focused efforts and finished the week with two wins. Hopefully this momentum carries into the remaining three weeks of the regular season.”
