Plainsmen split pair of games, move to 10–10 on the season

The Perkins County Plainsmen boys basketball team split a pair of games last week, earning a road win before dropping a neutral-site contest to move their season record to 10–10.

Bayard

Perkins County opened the week on Tuesday, February 10, with a road matchup against Bayard at Bayard High School. The Plainsmen controlled the tempo throughout the contest and came away with a convincing 51–31 victory.

Colton Kroeker led Perkins County in scoring with 15 points while also pulling down seven rebounds to anchor the Plainsmen on both ends of the court. Strong defensive play and balanced team contributions allowed Perkins County to steadily extend its lead and secure the win.

Valentine

The Plainsmen returned to action on Friday, February 13, taking on Valentine at North Platte Community College. Perkins County battled but ultimately fell 68–49 in the nonconference matchup.

Valentine held a 14–9 advantage after the first quarter. Perkins County trimmed the margin slightly in the second period, scoring 12 points, but Valentine matched the effort with 14 to take a 28–21 lead into halftime. Valentine widened the gap in the third quarter with 19 points, while the Plainsmen added 15. The final quarter saw Valentine score 21 points to Perkins County’s 13, sealing the outcome.

Next action 

Perkins County will look to improve on its 10–10 record when the Plainsmen host the Maywood-Hayes Center Wolves on February 20 at Perkins County High School. The varsity game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m.
