McGannon joins Southwest Farm and Home Realty as Sales Associate
For Hannah McGannon, 36, it was a love for small-town life, her family legacy in real estate, and a desire to help people that led her to being the newest sales associate at Southwest Farm and Home Realty in Grant.
“Real estate has always been something I’ve wanted to do,” McGannon said. “The business runs deep in my family on both sides, and I would always think, ‘I really want to do that one day,’”
That one day happened last fall, when Southwest Farm and Home Realty Brokers Bob Tatum and Bernie Deaver heard through a mutual acquaintance that McGannon was interested in the real estate field, and approached her about considering joining them in their business.
“We were looking for the right person, and we’ve been around Hannah just enough to know that she has all the right attributes and character,” Designated Broker Tatum said.
McGannon completed her real estate training online last fall and passed her real estate sales associate exam. Her license becoming active January 1, 2026, which was also her first official day at Southwest Farm and Home Realty.
As a sales associate at Southwest Farm and Home Realty, McGannon will represent her own buyers and sellers and earn commission on her transactions. She works under the firm’s brokerage, but with her own clients and listings, as is standard for independent agents, she said.
She is considering creating a separate Facebook page specifically for her real estate work, where she can share listings and updates while keeping her personal account more private. Any posts related to homes for sale will include the required brokerage identification, including the firm’s name, address, and phone number, in compliance with real estate advertising regulations. The firm maintains its own Facebook page under the name Southwest Farm and Home Realty.
McGannon’s commitment to family and community connection is central to how she sees her new real estate role.
“Being a part of either the buying or selling process, those are the two biggest things,” she said. “I love being able to walk into a home and envision how it could look, and just helping people find what they’re looking for. Being part of that whole process is so interesting to me.”
“If somebody wants to list their house with me, I can do that,” she explained. “Or if somebody is looking for a house to buy or wants a showing, I can do that as well.”
Her real estate work will start out as part-time, but she expects it could grow into more full-time hours as she builds her client base. She already has a few potential sellers in mind.
For now, she’s focused on learning all she can from Tatum and Deaver and putting her new skills to use.
“I am looking forward to learning from Bob and Bernie, and I’m super excited to serve the community,” she said. “I’m just really enjoying getting my feet wet with everything.”
From Houston to Grant
McGannon grew up in Houston, Texas, where she graduated from high school and later took college courses in psychology and business at Houston Community College. She continued her education at Red Rocks Community College in Denver after moving there for a period of time.
She met her husband, Trent, in Custer, South Dakota, while both were working at Sylvan Lake one summer. When Trent was attending college in Sterling, Colo., Hannah chose not to return to Texas and moved with him instead. The couple later moved to Denver, where they were married.
In 2015, Hannah said Trent decided he was “done with the city life.” With his mother, Trish Jimenez, already living in Grant, the couple found themselves a rental house, and have been in Perkins County ever since.
“It was an adjustment at first,” McGannon admitted. “But very quickly I came to love it. I like to feel safe, see familiar faces, and enjoy a slower pace.”
Since moving to the area, McGannon has held several roles. She worked at the Lake McConaughy Visitor Center before becoming a stay-at-home mom, and now works part-time at the Senior Center in Venango, a role she has held for more than two-and-a-half years, and will continue to keep.
McGannon sees community involvement as a key part of her role.
She has just completed her initial steps to become a teammate mentor, and she plans to be actively involved with the Chamber of Commerce. She is also considering joining other local organizations in the future.
“Being a more active face in the community and forming more relationships” are one of her main goals, she said.
Since moving to Grant, McGannon’s father, Dennis Boitnott, has also moved to Grant and is the new cook at the Perkins County Senior Center. Her mother has also started spending more time in Grant, she said.
Hannah and Trent have one daughter, Leika, who is 6 years old and in kindergarten. Trent works as a lab tech at the ethanol plant in Madrid, and is fully behind her new venture.
“He is very excited, very supportive,” she said.
