City Council reviews audit, discusses parking lot improvements during meeting

During its Tuesday, Feb. 24 meeting, the Grant City Council reviewed the city’s recent audit, proposed improvements to the parking lot north of the city offices, and discussed potential funding options for the Hastings Memorial Library.

Audit  is Approved

Council members approved the city’s most recent audit report, which city officials say shows the city remains in strong financial condition. A complete report of the audit can be requested from the City of Grant offices.

Parking Lot and Sidewalk Improvements Discussed

Council members discussed plans to improve the parking lot to the north of the city offices by the Perkins County Senior Center.

A proposed design was presented to the council by the City’s Engineer Tom Werblow. The proposal included angled parking spaces and sidewalk improvements to improve safety and pedestrian access. The project is being funded primarily through donations, along with approximately $50,000 set aside in capital outlay funds.

City officials commented the design includes sidewalks that meet ADA accessibility standards, with adjustments to account for existing utility poles and alley entrances.

The council plans to prepare bid documents for the project, allowing contractors to submit proposals once final plans are completed.

An alternate bid item will include a sidewalk extension near the Perkins County Senior Center, allowing the city to add or remove that portion depending on whether Perkins County contributes to the funding to the project.

Library Funding and Budget Discussed

Council members also discussed the Hastings Memorial Library budget and the possibility of adjusting its funding structure. An article concerning this issue will appear in a future edition of the Tribune-Sentinel.
