Seger takes May honors

Ava Seger, daughter of Jessica and Chad Seger, has been named the Pinnacle Bank Senior of the Month, recognizing her achievements in academics, athletics and extracurricular activities at Perkins County High School.
Seger has been actively involved in volleyball, track and field, one-act play, speech and teammates throughout all four years of high school. She also joined National Honor Society and Student Council during her senior year. Across her activities, she has earned numerous honors and awards.
In volleyball, Seger suited up for the varsity team all four years and was a varsity starter during her junior and senior seasons. She was selected to attend the Top 10 Volleyball Camp her senior year and earned a varsity letter as a junior.
On the track, Seger competed on the varsity team for three consecutive years and lettered as a freshman, sophomore and junior. She was also part of a 4x400-meter relay team that finished runner-up at districts.
In one-act play, Seger earned a role each year, including a main character role during her junior season. She received a Best Actor award her junior year and lettered her freshman through junior years.
Seger was also a member of the varsity speech team for three years. She qualified for state competition in duet and oral interpretation of drama (OID) as a freshman, returned to state in OID as a sophomore, and qualified again in both duet and OID her junior year. She accumulated 7,266 speaker points and lettered all three years.
Outside of school, Seger participates in youth group and attends meetings for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She has worked as a clerk and cleaner at Blume Flower Studio and Brick and Mortar, and has provided babysitting services for families in the community.
“I have learned what it means to keep a work area clean and organized. I have learned how to properly greet customers and provide customer service. I have learned how to care for children of various ages ranging from 3 to 12 years old,” Seger said.
After high school, Seger plans to attend a community college before pursuing acceptance into a radiology program.
“Afterwards I hope to get into a radiology program and then graduate. Then I would like to pursue my education and become an ultrasound technician,” she said.
When asked about her proudest accomplishments, Seger pointed to her ability to balance multiple activities.
“I am proud of my grit and determination when it comes to performing in athletics and in the arts. I managed to be on the varsity volleyball, track and speech teams, as well as gain a part in every one-act,” she said. “I’m also proud of my three-time state qualifications in speech and my placing at districts in track. I have also been consistent in being on the A/B honor roll and being accepted into National Honor Society.”
Seger said the relationships she has built are what she values most from her high school experience.
“I value all the friendships and bonds I have created over the years. Being in a small school makes it easy to connect with so many people,” she said. “It also makes school activities and dances more fun because everyone knows everyone. It’s going to be hard going from a close school to a college with a large number of people.”
She credits her community for helping shape her perspective and values.
“The community has helped me value being part of a small town. All the businesses that support our school have made me realize how much our community wants to make us feel seen,” Seger said. “The community has really taught me how to be grateful. I’ve given back by helping run junior high volleyball tournaments, elementary track and field days, and placing flowers at the park.”
For being selected Senior of the Month, Seger’s picture will hang in the lobby of Pinnacle Bank in Grant and she will be eligible for a scholarship awarded at the end of the school year.
The Student of the Month and scholarship program are sponsored jointly by community members and Pinnacle Bank in Grant.
