Grant to host concerts, BRAG Ride, art show and citywide sales

As warmer weather settles into Perkins County, residents will have several opportunities in the coming weeks to enjoy live music, local art, outdoor recreation and community gatherings in Grant.

The Perkins County Area Arts Council will host another installment of its “Long Hot Summer Series” on Saturday, May 16, with a performance by Eben Rosentrater from 8-10 p.m. at The Lot, located south of Blume along Central Avenue in Grant. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for the outdoor concert event.

Area residents are also invited to stop by the Meadowlark Gallery in downtown Grant throughout May to view the gallery’s current exhibition, “Art by Breeanna Benton.” 

The gallery is open Fridays and Saturdays from 5-7 p.m. and is celebrating 23 years of showcasing art exhibitions in Grant.

Community members can also look forward to BRAG (Bike Ride Around Grant) on May 21, which is also the last day of school for Perkins County Students.

According to Michelle Ross,President of the Perkins County Chamber of Commerce, participants should pick up their passports at Pinnacle Bank before meeting on the south side of Grant City Park at 6:30 p.m. Riders will have opportunities to win free prizes during the event.

The evening will conclude with a community drive-in movie featuring “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” beginning at 7:45 p.m. on the west side of the Grant Fairgrounds. 

A free will donation will be accepted. The movie event is sponsored by Midwest Electric and Hatch’s Superfoods.

Looking ahead to June, the Perkins County Chamber of Commerce will host its annual citywide garage sales on Saturday, June 6. Residents wishing to participate are encouraged to contact Michelle Ross at 308-352-4131, or Dawnya at 308-882-1574 to have their names and addresses included on the official garage sale map.

The upcoming activities offer opportunities for residents and visitors alike to enjoy the arts, entertainment and community spirit throughout Perkins County during the start of the summer season.
