From grand openings to retirement celebrations; full weekend in Grant

Open House event, retirement party, history, art, music and alumni means something fun for everyone

Residents will have several opportunities to celebrate community milestones, local history, live music and school traditions during a packed weekend of events in Grant.

The weekend begins Friday, June 12, with the grand opening of High Plains Insurors at 224 Central Ave. Community members are invited to stop by for a chance to meet agency owners Terry and Richard, and can enjoy a lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Also on  Friday afternoon, Perkins County officials will host a retirement open house honoring long time County Assessor Peggy Burton. The event is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Commissioners Room on the second floor of the Perkins County Courthouse, 200 Lincoln Ave.

Friday evening shifts the focus to art and local history as the Meadowlark Gallery opens its June exhibit, “The Vintage Bride.” The show features a collection of historic wedding gowns from the Perkins County Museum Historical Collection and offers visitors a glimpse into bridal fashion through the decades.

The opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the gallery, 246 Central Ave. The first 30 guests attending the opening will receive a fresh flower. The gallery will continue to be open from 5 to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays throughout the month, or by appointment.

The evening will continue with live music as The Platinum Pearls take the stage at 7 p.m. at The Lot, located just north of Blume on Central Avenue. The concert is part of the Perkins County Area Arts Council’s Long Hot Summer Music Series.

The Platinum Pearls say on their website, “We are based out of Nebraska and have been playing music over a five state area since 2021. 

‘We play from our hearts and soul, music that moves and touches you. Belting out the hits you know and love! The Platinum hits from the Platinum selling artists along with some of our originals.”

Based in Nebraska, The Platinum Pearls perform a wide variety of music spanning multiple genres and decades. The trio features lead vocalist and keyboardist Tracey, guitarist and vocalist Mike, and drummer Benjamin. The group performs throughout the Midwest at festivals, fairs, community events and dances, offering audiences a mix of popular hits and crowd favorites.

The weekend concludes Saturday, June 13, with a long-standing Perkins County tradition as alumni whose graduation years end in a 1 or 6 gather for the annual Perkins County High School Alumni Banquet. Pictures will be at 5:30 p.m. followed by supper at 6 p.m. Dancing will follow at the PC Fairgrounds for those 21 and older. A cover charge applies and a cash bar will be available.
