Filing deadline passes, Perkins County ballot set for Nov. 3 election

Perkins County voters will choose candidates for county, city, school and village offices during the Nov. 3 general election, while also deciding whether to continue a property tax levy for the Perkins County Hospital District.

The City of Grant mayoral race features two candidates, current council member Samuel R. Sims and Marlin D. Wendell. The winner will serve a four-year term.

Two incumbent candidates, Andrea L. Brueggeman and Tierney L. Petersen, filed for two available seats on the Grant City Council.

Five candidates are seeking three positions on the Perkins County Schools Board of Education. Incumbents Cameron J. Sis, Christian G. Fryzek and Victoria A. Gengenbach are seeking reelection, while Mitchel Bottom and Traci Lee are running as a nonincumbents. Each position carries a four-year term.

A contested race will also be held for the Village of Madrid Board of Trustees, where three candidates filed for two available seats. The candidates are incumbents Kamryn Loy and Jennifer Baumgartner and nonincumbent Jennifer Kier.

In Elsie, incumbents Victor M. Perez and Douglas J. Curtis filed for two available village board seats. Venango incumbents Troy Grothman and Christina Farnsworth filed for three available positions on that village’s board.

Several county officials are running without listed opposition.

Republican incumbents James D. Brueggeman, county clerk; Julie A. Sestak, county treasurer; Richard H. Roberts, county attorney; and Jeffrey S. Miller, county sheriff, are seeking additional four-year terms.

Regina J. Berry, a Republican nonincumbent, filed for county assessor.

Republican incumbents Steven W. Tucker and Mark W. Bottom are seeking reelection to the Perkins County Board of Commissioners. Tucker represents District 3, while Bottom represents District 2.

The county’s public candidate filing list includes candidates who filed locally. It does not include candidates who filed through the Nebraska Secretary of State’s Office or surrounding counties but who may also appear on Perkins County ballots.

In addition to selecting candidates, voters will consider a special ballot question from the Perkins County Hospital District.

The district is asking voters for authority to continue levying a property tax of up to 3.5 cents per $100 of taxable valuation above limits prescribed by law. The additional levy would remain authorized through fiscal year 2032-33 and would be used for the hospital district’s general operations.

A vote for the measure would continue the district’s authority to collect the levy. A vote against the measure would end that authority.
