Darlene Mae McQueen, 97, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away Saturday Dec. 2, 2017 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Darlene was born on May 1, 1920 in Trenton, Neb., to Sherman and Florence (Youngman) Ball. 

She was the youngest of five children, having three older brothers and one older sister. 

The family moved to Perkins County where she attended school in Elsie and graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1938. She worked for Cutler Drug Store and North Western Bell Telephone Company. 

In 1942 she married Ray McQueen and they lived on a farm south of Elsie for 40 years. After Ray passed away, she moved to North Platte where she was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, a volunteer for many dinners and a 26-year volunteer at the Bargain Bin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ray; brothers Dean, Eldon and John Ball; and sister Gladys Shelton.

Darlene is survived by her son Kyle (Sandy) McQueen of North Platte; daughter Kathleen (Jerry) Miller of North Platte; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as other extended family members and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Patrick’s and Holy Spirit’s Food Pantry.

 Christian Wake Services will be held 7 p.m. CT on Wednesday Dec. 6, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. CT on Thursday Dec. 7, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Josh Brown as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Elsie Cemetery. 

Visitation will be 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. CT Wednesday.

Adams and Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
