Lois Gaston

Lois M. Gaston, age 83, of Grant, Nebraska, passed away, Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado.

Lois was born March 31, 1938 in Fairbury, Neb. to James and Edna (Weyer) Thompson.

She received her education in Alexandria, Neb., Long Beach, California, and Fairbury, graduating from Fairbury High School in 1956.

On June 30, 1956 Lois was united in marriage to Alvin L. Gaston in Alexandria. 

The couple made their home in Fairbury and later in Maryville, Missouri. 

They moved to Grant in 1966. Lois was employed at  John Deere Implement in Grant,  Perkins County Hospital and Perkins County Sheriff’s Office. Her hobbies included crocheting, reading and traveling. 

Lois most importantly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church and the U.M.W. Mrs. Gaston was a charter president and was active in the B.P.O. Elks Does.

Lois is survived by her daughter; Brenda (Randy) Barry-Schommer, of Chadron, Neb.; three sons; Rodney (Pam) Gaston, of McCook, Neb.; Bradley (Diane) Gaston, of Crawford, Neb.; Stephen (Chelle) Gaston, of Venango, Neb.;

grandchildren; Rick (Jennifer), of Crawford, NE, Mitch (Heather) Barry, of Chadron; Brian (Tracy) Gaston, of Cheney, Washington;  Cory Gaston, of Glenwood, Iowa;  Kyle ( Marissa) Gaston, of Hooper, Neb.; Gregory Gaston, of  McCook; Jason Gaston, of Golden, Colo.; Dr. Jeffrey Gaston, of Elk Grove, Calif.; Chantel (Josh) Wegener of Littleton, Colo; Austin (Krista) Gaston, of Madrid Neb.; Zac (Larissa) White, of Ogallala; Elijah Gaston, of  Venango, Neb.; 8 great-granddaughters; Natalie, Averielle, Rylan, Mayley,  Kalen, Kayla, Ann and Lily; 6 great-grandsons Kasen, Mitch, Troy, Jayden, Benjamin, and Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; her parents; her three brothers; Don, Clifford, and James Thompson; and her three sisters; Frances McKay, Ruth Anderson and Ann Aguilar.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 14th in the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel from 1 p.m. - 8  p.m., with the family greeting friends from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held, Thursday, April 15 at 10 a.m. from the United Methodist Church in Grant, with Rev. Lorri Kentner Officiating.

Cremation to follow services with private family interment of cremains in the Fairview Cemetery in Grant at a later date.

A memorial has been established in her memory.

COVID-19 precautions are still being followed and masks are recommended.
