Lois Shepherd

Lois A. Coleman Shepherd died peacefully at home with her children and grandchildren by her side on December 31, 2020 just 2 months shy of her 100th birthday.

She was born March 11, 1921 to Thurman Cleveland Coleman and Lenna M. Nord Coleman, in Pleasanton, Kansas. As a baby she relocated with her family to Elsie, Nebraska to be near Thurman’s sister.

Lois recounted many stories about life in Nebraska including the story of traveling with her parents and two brothers, Virgil Lee Coleman five years old and Vernon (Joe) Coleman two years old in their model T and sleeping in a haystack before reaching her new home in Elsie. Lois and her brothers attended school in Elsie.

After graduating from high school, the family moved for a short time to Missouri where Lois attended a business school located in Chillicothe, Mo. After returning to Nebraska Lois married Edward Bruce Shepherd in April of 1942. Lois and Bruce had two daughters Lenla and Valerie.

Together the family spent many happy years in Venango Nebraska. After retirement Bruce and Lois traveled to Tucson, Ari. where both of the girls, their husbands and children were living.

Bruce passed away on September 11, 2003 and Lois continued to stay near family in Tucson where she watched her four grandchildren and two great grandchildren grow.

She will be sadly and forever missed by Lenla and George Kallis, Valerie and Jack Smith, grandchildren Ryan and Devyn, Noah and Adam, and great grandchildren Keira and Nicky, along with all of the wonderful friends and family she always treasured.
