Nancy Hastings

Nancy C. Hastings, 81, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Cozad Community Health System.

 Nancy Carol Guildner was born June 18, 1936, in Grant, Neb., the daughter of Percy and Queena (Able) Guildner. 

 She grew up in Grant and graduated from Perkins County High School in 1954, as the class valedictorian. 

Upon graduation from high school, Nancy taught one year at a rural school in Perkins County before she was united in marriage to Ronald R. Hastings on Aug. 28, 1955 in Grant. 

The couple moved to McCook, Neb., and attended McCook Junior College and later attended Kearney State College. 

Nancy taught in Axtell while her husband completed his education after which the couple moved to Callaway, Neb., for teaching positions. 

While living in Callaway, the couple was blessed with the birth of their first daughter and then later blessed with the birth of their second daughter while living in Ord, Neb.

 In 1967, the couple moved their young family to Grand Island, Neb., where Nancy was a substitute teacher and spent many years as the West Lawn Elementary School secretary. 

In 1997, the couple moved to Johnson Lake to spend their retirement years. Nancy enjoyed her family, growing and arranging flowers and was a talented musician.

 Nancy will be remembered as a woman of faith, a loving and loyal wife, mother and grandmother.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dona Hohnstein and Joyce Sorensen, and one niece, Sue Jardine.

 Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 62 years, two daughters; Staci Cannon (John) of Kearney, Neb., and Ann Hastings of Lincoln, Neb.; her four grandchildren, A.J. Cannon, Andrew Cannon and wife Taylor, Maya and Abigail McIntosh.

Funeral Service were held Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, Neb., with Pastors Rob Kuefner and William Ohlmann officiating.

 Burial was held in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.

 Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.
