Nancy Kay Hobelman, 86

Nancy Kay Hobelman, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on June 23, 2026 at the age of 86. Nancy was born on February 22, 1940, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Jerald Homer Dawson and Dorothy Virginia (Douglas) Dawson. She grew up in Nebraska and carried throughout her life the values of hard work, resilience, and devotion to family. In January 1961, Nancy married Walter William Hobelman. Together they built a life centered on family, raising three children: Carol Ann Pelster, Jerry Paul Hobelman, and Gary Wayne Hobelman. Her greatest joy was her family, and she treasured every opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nancy had a special love for her dogs, who were faithful companions throughout the years. She enjoyed camping and making memories around campfires with family and friends, embracing the beauty and simplicity of the outdoors. She was also known for enjoying trips to the casino, where she could often be found trying her luck on the slot machines and sharing laughs with those around her. Bill and Nancy also spent the winters for several years camping in Arizona. Nancy lived a life marked by determination, kindness, and a deep love for those she held dear. She was always ready with a helping hand, a listening ear, or a warm smile. Her strength and caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerald Homer Dawson and Dorothy Virginia Dawson; infant brother Roland Dawson; and sister Marilyn Ann Meints. Nancy is survived by her husband, Walter William Hobelman; her daughter, Carol (Joe) Pelster of Kearney NE her sons, Jerry (Amy) Hobelman of Lincoln NE and Gary (Kriss) Hobelman Of Imperial CA; her grandchildren, Caitlin, Adam and Alek Pelster, John Rodycill and Ellie Harris and Kaleb, Jordan and Emmie Hobelman; great-grandchildren, extended family members, and many friends who will forever cherish her memory. A celebration of Nancy’s life was held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 26th at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney, Nebraska. Interment followed at 3:15 p.m. in Lincoln, Nebraska at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2026 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney.
