Noreen “Dayle” Thompson

Noreen “Dayle” Thompson, 68, of Wallace, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 in Lincoln, Neb.

Dayle was born on Oct. 27, 1949 in North Platte, Neb., to Doug and Alice (Simmons) McDermott. 

She attended District 58, a one-room school house in Somerset, Neb., through the eighth grade. She then attended McCook Senior High her freshman and sophomore years before transferring to Wallace Public High School.

She was awarded the D.A.R. good citizenship award in her 1968 graduating class. She attended Parks Business College in Denver, following high school graduation. 

 On Jan. 25, 1969 she was united in marriage to Ronald D. Thompson. Ron was stationed at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington. After being honorably discharged from the United States Army, Ron and Dayle returned to Wallace to ranch. To their union, two children were born, Darcy and Justin. 

Dayle worked as a bookkeeper over the years in banks, grain elevators and hospitals. Her most accomplished and appreciated role was that of a ranch wife and partner. 

She could ride a horse and sort cattle as well as prepare a delicious branding dinner. She and Ron shared 49 years of marriage.

Dayle had a passion for reading and enjoyed her time volunteering at the Faith Memorial Library. She also enjoyed playing in numerous bridge clubs in the Wallace and Grant communities. Her love of cooking treated her friends and family to new dishes as well as the family favorite recipes. 

As a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Wallace VFW, she enjoyed being a part of the patriotism contest for the local youth. 

She loved her country and her community; however her strongest love was for her family. She loved her grandchildren unconditionally. She enjoyed watching JD compete in his rodeo events and cherished her time with Taylor and Rylee during their trip to Disney World.

She was preceded in death by her parents Doug and Alice McDermott; and father and mother-in-law Harry and Anna Thompson.

Survivors include her husband, Ron of Wallace; daughter Darcy (Ted) Howard of Oakley, Kansas; son Justin (Jamie) Thompson of Lincoln; grandchildren, J.D. Draper of Oakley, Taylor and Rylee Thompson of Lincoln; aunt Barbara (Dale) Ness of Fargo, North Dakota; brother Bruce (Erica) McDermott of Wellfleet, Neb.; sister Dawn McDermott of Fort Worth, Texas; sister-in-law Joan (Gary) Ott of Wallace; nephew Thad (Lucinda) McDermott; nieces Tonya Hoelting, Julie (Riley) Kelly, Deanna (Nick) Klosen, Crystal (Cody) Bryant; as well as many special cousins.

Memorials may be made to the Faith Memorial Library in Wallace. Online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. 

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018 at the Wallace Community Hall with the Reverend Bob Witt officiating. 

Burial followed at Morningview Cemetery near Wallace. 

Adams and Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte was in charge of arrangements.
