JJ Treankler

Obituary

JJ Treankler

JJ Treankler, 70, former Ogallala, Nebraska resident, passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Omaha VA Medical Center.

JJ was born Jan. 24, 1947 at Cold Spring, Kentucky. Raised by her grandparents, Sam and Betty Bowerman, JJ attended school in the Cold Spring area before entering the US Army.

JJ received a medical discharge after sustaining a fairly serious injury during her service. She resided in Santa Fe, New Mexico for several years where she worked in the security field. In 2002, JJ moved to Ogallala, where she enjoyed spending time on craft work, volunteering and bowling.

JJ was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary. Not long after she moved to Ogallala, she got involved in a bowling league, where she made several of her very best friends. Her experience in  bowling gave her the opportunity to travel to various competitions throughout the United States, which she really loved.

She spent quite a bit of time as a volunteer with RSVP in Ogallala, helping with BINGO at the VFW and assisting with Meals on Wheels. JJ also loved playing scratch tickets, and did so often, even throughout her stays in nursing homes and medical centers as her health declined.

JJ was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sam and Betty Bowerman.

Survivors include her sister, Betty Pruitt of Golden Ours Convalescent Home of Grant, Neb.; friend and caregiver, Doris Wilson of Ogallala; along with several of her bowling and volunteer friends.

Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Post 135 in Ogallala. Condolences can be shared online at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Neb.

Prairie Hills Funeral Home of Ogallala is in charge of arrangements.
