Peggy Jackman Lebsack

Margaret Ann (Peggy) Mulvaney Jackman Lebsack passed away in Lincoln on August 12, 2021.

She was born March 21, 1931, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Marion F. Mulvaney and Blanche McKee Mulvaney. She was baptized in the Methodist Church in Omaha soon after birth, confirmed in the same church and received her bible from her father whom was a Methodist pastor. 

She graduated from Omaha Benson High School in Omaha, Neb., in 1948, and the University of Nebraska with distinction with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1952. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega, Mortar Board, P.E.O., and Teachers’ College Honorariums Delta Phi Upsilon and Pi Lambda Theta.

She taught kindergarten in Hastings from 1952-1954. After her second year of teaching, her father Marion passed away. She was thinking of teaching in Lincoln, but received a letter from one of her former UNL professors asking if she was interested in graduate work. She took a fellowship to Whittier College, Whittier, California, from 1954-1957. 

After receiving her Master’s in Education she taught half-day kindergarten at Torrance, Calif. While she had dated Herbert Jackman when they were in college and while she was teaching in Hastings, she had not seen him since that time. 

When Herbert returned to the US after being honorably discharged from the Army in 1957, he came to California where they saw each other for four days. They were united in marriage August 3, 1957.

They resided in Franklin, Neb., from 1957-1959 at which time she taught kindergarten. They then moved to Grant, Neb. 

To this union were born five sons: James Jay, Thomas Alan, William David, Daniel Lee and Douglas McKee. 

In Grant, she operated a nursery school and was a board member for PAKS for disabled children in Ogallala. She helped in the Methodist Church by teaching Sunday School and Bible School. Herbert passed away June 17, 1981.

In 1985, she moved to Lincoln where she was a Board Member of the Nebraska Alumni Association for six years and a member of their Executive Board for one year. She volunteered at the Lied Center for Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska. She was a P.E.O. member for 60 years holding numerous offices including president of her local chapter. 

In 1994, she married Gayle I. Lebsack and she was again happily married for 23 years until Gayle passed away November 2, 2017. He brought to their marriage Roxane (Tom) Weyhrauch, Martin Lebsack and five grandchildren.

In addition to Gayle’s children and their families, Peggy is survived by James (Jacque) Jackman, Thomas (Kaylyn) Jackman, William Jackman; Daniel (Brenda Bence) Jackman, Douglas (Kristine) Jackman, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, Herbert L. Jackman and Gayle I. Lebsack, brother Charles (Francis) Mulvaney, sister Mary Jean Mulvaney, and grandson Zachary Jackman, infant son of James and Jacque Jackman.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 21 at Roper & Sons, Midtown Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street in Lincoln, Neb. with Pastor Dan Safarik officiating. Visitation with family present from 5-7 p.m., Friday, August 20, at Roper and Sons, Midtown Chapel. 

Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 23, Fairview Cemetery, Grant, Nebraska.
