Russ Gregg

Russ Gregg, 75 of Grant, passed away Mar. 1, 2020, at his home west of Grant.

Russ was born Aug. 26, 1944, at Pipestone, Minn., to Russell and Doris (Henry) Gregg. He grew up on a ranch in Rockerville, S.D., where he learned to ride at the tender age of four. Russ graduated from high school in Rapid City, S.D. As a young man he enjoyed riding broncs and bulls in rodeos.

Russ took a summer job as an ironworker, which ultimately turned into a career that spanned forty-two years. In that time, Russ traveled all over the United States, working on structures from skyscrapers to bridges to power plants, with one of his last projects being Coors Field in Colorado. Russ had more than a few riveting stories to tell about his experiences. On June 29, 1996, Russ married Jean Sabetti. In 2008, the couple retired to Grant, where they enjoyed a quiet life and genuine friendships. He had also worked for Ag-Land Aviation in Grant. Russ enjoyed being active in the Grant Lion’s Club until his health would no longer allow.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Wesley Zwick.

Survivors include his wife, Jean of Grant; 7 children, James (Linda) Gregg of Phoenix, AZ, Catherine Walter of Chandler, Ariz., Paul (Meredith) Gregg of Couer D’Alene, Idaho, Elisabeth (Alex) Vikulov of Walnut Creek, Calif., Tony Brewer of Shakopee, Minn., Sean Sabetti of Westminster, Colo., and Nicole Sabetti of Imperial; twelve grandchildren; three siblings, Pauline Zwick of Grant, Paul (Phyllis) Gregg of Custer, S.D., and Richard (Vivian) Gregg of Palmer, Ark.; along with many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Interment of Cremains will be in the Grant Fairview Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge of arrangements.
