Fund supports Western Sky CCC

The Perkins County Community Foundation Fund, PCCFF, salutes the leadership team of Western Sky Community Care Center. Its brave efforts into almost the unknown are focused on a capital campaign to build a new nursing home for the area. However, pieces of the puzzle seem to be coming together to make it happen.

It is this leadership and inspiration that led the PCCFF Advisory Committee to go on record supporting this major effort. The fund is also encouraging its donors and others to support WSCCC’s fund raising effort in year-end giving as an alternative to giving to the fund.

There are numerous ways to support the project including contributions in cash, required minimum distribution of IRA’s, stock, real estate and more.

Gifts of commodities, especially grain, seem to be of interest to agricultural producers. Lee Shaw, in a letter to the editor in the Grant Tribune Sentinel, Nov. 9, offered the many benefits of gifts of grain. In the transaction of transferring the ownership of the grain to the non-profit organization, there are no income taxes or self-employment taxes on the gift of grain. And expenses incurred in the production of the grain are deductible. The process therefore has the potential to expand the gift significantly compared to a cash contribution. Shaw says, “For me this is a win/win situation.” Producers are encouraged to check with their accountant to see if a gift of a commodity is appropriate for them.

Community support of the project so far shows a very united response to a major need in health care in the county. Michelle Ross, treasurer for PCCFF, states, “This project is very important to the county. In addition, the project also provides the potential for economic development, as well as a home for those elders who were important in building our communities.”
