Hatch’s to change warehouses

Letter to the Editor

I have heard through the vine the questions of why our shelves aren’t as full as normal. I am going to try and give you an explanation.

A year and a half ago, Affiliated Foods Midwest, our warehouse, that we had been with for 30-plus years was bought out by a billion dollar company, AWG. This was a big surprise to most of the retail grocers that were with Affiliated Foods, we had no choice in this decision. This was a big hit, financially and with how AWG does business. We have felt unappreciated, never really been on the same page -– I could go on, but I think you get the gist.

The good news -– I’ve been working on finding a new warehouse for months and have made the decision to change. This again, is a costly venture with much work involved.

We carry approximately 50,000 items, each has its own barcode, tag, pricing, etc. Our new warehouse is Affiliated Foods Inc., out of Amarillo, Texas. We will be going back to our Shurfine label, no longer selling Best choice. We will still carry all the national brands that you are accustomed to.

That said, this is why we are trying to clean up our inventory on all Best Choice items and products that our new warehouse doesn’t carry. We have to re-tag the entire store, again. We will be having mark downs on all Best Choice products, with a few exceptions. What we don’t sell will be donated to the Food Pantry.

Our first truck with Amarillo is mid April. We will then bring in all new Shurfine products. We will fill the store back to what you expect and deserve.

This decision has been difficult and costly. We are making these changes for you, our friends and customers. Without you, we have no reason to be in business.

We have been in business for 75-plus years. Times are changing, the industry is changing – it is not the mom and pop stores anymore. We are trying to maintain our values, service, products and competitive pricing for a store you want to come to. We hope and pray this will continue for years to come.

Thank you!!! Our best to you!

P.S. I forgot to mention we will not have a flyer mailed for the April 11-17 ad, nor the April 18-23 ad. Instead the ads are featured in the Grant Tribune Sentinel.
