Letter to the Editor: Youth raising funds in classmate’s memory

Dear citizens,

Last January, our community lost a sweet young girl, Michelle Briggs when she lost her long fight with cancer.

11 years just weren’t enough for us to spend with her, though I was lucky enough to call her my friend since kindergarten.

Michelle was beautiful, smart, strong, brave and sassy in the best way.

She meant so much to me and I don’t think anyone should ever have to go through what she did, and there are other kids right now fighting similar fights for their lives.

I’ve put together a fundraising project called “Remembering Michelle” to raise money to donate to the Denver Children’s Hospital where she and so many others have spent too much of their time.

I was able to raise enough money to purchase “Remembering Michelle” t-shirts and have put together a bake sale that will be held in the park on the Fourth of July.

Everything at our stand will be free-will donation. Suggested donation for the t-shirts is $15 dollars, so we can raise at least what was spent on the shirts initially.

We also plan to have drinks, popcorn, cookies, rice crispy treats and lots of other good snacks as well, so please come visit us and support our worthy cause.

I appreciate any contributions to help me reach my goal of $1,500 to donate in memory of my sweet friend, Michelle. She was so strong and despite it all, she was always smiling and I hope bringing our community together to honor her in this way has her smiling now.
