Library is essential community facility - why the budget cut?

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

Essential Community Facilities/Services: these are often described as non-profit, tax supported. Infrastructure, such as community centers, parks, libraries and public swimming pools, that provide necessary quality of life benefits, particularly in rural areas.

Public goods/assets other towns in Nebraska describe libraries as “tremendous community assets and welcoming public spaces.”

So why did the City of Grant cut the library budget $48,000? That’s 1/3 of their budget. Did ALL of the budgets get cut 1/3?

Have you been to the library lately? It’s not just books. Children have a safe and welcoming place to go and projects to do.

Signed,

Lisa Jones
