My sports view while recovering from COVID

Last week started off with a bang as Marlene and I both tested positive for Covid. So I have had a lot of time to think about what was going on in the sports world but ended up taking some of the worst-tasting medicine and just hoping that it was doing some good. Took the last of it on Sunday, so I can’t report if the taste has gone away yet or not. We have gotten along pretty well other than just being very, very tired most of the time. I am tired of taking naps!

There were a lot of things going on with volleyball playoffs, football playoffs and the college stuff.

The Husker volleyball and football didn’t help much this week. I knew that the volleyball team had always had problems with Wisconsin, but after watching Nebraska coming into this game I thought this will be a really good volleyball game to watch. It wasn’t all that good. Nebraska had been outstanding on defense this season but Wisconsin’s offense was way better than our defense in this meeting. It was just one of those nights that you don’t want to have.

Coach Cook pretty much indicated that Wisconsin was better that night in every aspect of the match. It was just strange after watching the Huskers women sweep almost everyone they played so far and then see them get swept and really never being much of a threat. The good thing is that the Huskers are still tied for first place in the conference and have a chance to keep that going, but somewhere in the season they are going to have to find a way to defeat Wisconsin.

The Husker football team pretty much followed the script of the season. They did get off to a pretty good start and actually had a lead in the first half, but when they lost the quarterback to a hand injury, things went south in a hurry and stayed there the rest of the game.

It still is a game where you have to tackle and block and even though at times I thought the tackling was better, there still were a lot of open-field misses. Got to stay positive, not with Covid, and hope that they will improve the rest of the season. I am not sure a bowl game is in the picture, but you can always hope they pick enough wins up to qualify.

With PCS teams done for the fall season, my attention turned to Malcolm where son Troy is employed. I also get to run into Coach Hunt who spent some time at PCS, Doug Mahoney who also spent time at Grant, and then Ryan Terwilliger is the superintendent. So it is almost like old home week when I go visit the school.

They are having a pretty good fall as their girls qualified for the state volleyball tournament and the football team went undefeated and won their first game in the playoffs.

So I can still do some things as soon as we get our sentence served for the Covid police.
