NCAA volleyball worth watching; Steph Curry too

Pitching with Pritch

My favorite sport to watch is college basketball and since that is over for the season, I have had to find something else to spend some time in front of the big screen.

I wasn’t sure I would like it, but I decided to watch the NCAA volleyball tournament. With Nebraska in the tournament, that made it better and I did enjoy watching the Huskers play.

But when they were eliminated, I found myself still following the tournament.

I was impressed with Texas and how well they played against Nebraska and thought they might just win the whole thing.

On the other side of the bracket, there was still a Big 10 team, Wisconsin, in the running and then they were eliminated.

In the end it was Texas vs Kentucky.  I am not a Texas fan! Kentucky was fine because when my sister was still with us, she lived and taught at Asbury University which is located in Wilmore, Kentucky and located about 20 miles south of Lexington.

Sis got her PhD from Kentucky and knew a lot faculty there, so Kentucky was easier to root for them.

After the first set, I thought Texas might sweep them, but UK came back and won the title.

It was a great title game as both teams had some outstanding players. I guess you wouldn’t get to the finals of an NCAA tournament game without having some talent but both teams did have talent and both teams played well.

My next pick to watch is professional basketball. That is a hard choice because I really can’t stand to watch much of it and there has to be a really good team or individual for me to get too interested.

But I have to admit that I enjoy watching Stephen Curry play. He has been a great offensive player for his entire career, but this year has been exceptional.

This past week he had put together his 10th game in a row of hitting at least 10 3-pointers and averaged 40.8 points per game.

He has done that by hitting 50% from the three-point line. He has hit 72 3-pointers in his last 10 games.

To put that in perspective, Suns guard Chris Paul, who is a pretty good player also, has made 73 3-pointers this season.  Curry has 260 threes through the first 50 games of the season which is the most ever in the league. Curry is the first player to average 40 points per game on 50% shooting through 10 games in a month since the great Wilt Chamberlain.

Wilt was 7-4 or something and never got out of the paint much, while Curry has hit some shots that were closer to the parking lots, he has depth!

All in all, it was some interesting viewing!
